Toilet seats are a nightmare! They just do not last. The hinges are bad design, difficult to clean and never fit properly! I have gone through several toilet seat covers, some unbelievable poor quality with hinges coming apart and still have not found a durable, quality seat cover. Where is modern technology and design in this area? Gone down the pan! You are right!
