That’s what they call it in Lahore at least. But apparently the phenomenon is not local to the sub continent alone. C/Net takes note of the “missed call” technique in Africa. In fact, it apparently represents over 25% of the call volume there. Carriers are aghast and running around from pillar to post trying to figure out a way to make money off of what currently is a major irritant. On a separate note, while the euphemisms for missed calls are plentiful (several listed in the article, including one in french!), the one I am loathe to hear above all others is still, “Mujhay mobwail pay touch kar lein…” Ugh. Makes you want to take a shower!
