Acquisitions continue; Oman acquires stake in Wordcall

After Etisalat’s $2.6BN investment in PTCL, the feeding frenzy appears to be just beginning. OmanTel announced that they are acquiring a majority stake in WordCall, one of Pakistan’s largest multimedia and telecom company. Salman Taseer, as we all know, also runs the Business Plus channel, the Daily Times Newspaper, PACE Pakistan and WordCall Multimedia, WorldCall Telecom and a variety of other allied concerns.
So now WordCall will have access to a lot more capital, and with its stock hovering at Rs. 17.20 as of Friday, November 16, 2007, this is the time to get in. The market is poised to rise in Q1, post elections, in any case. And now with the Omani backing, WordCall should really be able to grow their services and subscriber base. Even in the larger cities like Lahore, they have a long way to go before their networks are laid across the more than 400 square miles of city territory.
A few weeks ago, we talked about how mergers and acquisitions will start to pick up in the Pakistan market… I guess we were right again
