PTA plans 3G Wireless Technology Rollout
The wireless industry has made great strides in Pakistan, and the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) is planning to build on this momentum by pushing aggressively for 3G deployments through multiple carriers currently operating in the country. An article that appeared in The News outlines the PTA’s plan to hold a spectrum auction for 3G and allow providers to pick their technology of choice; anything from CDMA 2000, WCDMA, MediaFlo etc.
We’ve often talked about Wateen’s planned WiMax deployment. At this point its more fable than reality. But Mobilink also announced their plans to move into wireless broadband services with WiMax, so in addition to the carrier momentum, it’s good to see the PTA jump into the fray to accelerate this infrastructure buildout.
