Ufone adds Russian roaming partner – but are we doing any business there?
This press release from Etisalat’s Ufone got me thinking, if they’re adding roaming partners in Russia, then Ufone customers must be going over to Russia enough to justify the partnership. At this point, I would hazard a guess that Russia is probably not a favourite tourist destination for Pakistanis travelling outside the country. That leaves business travellers… so what significant are we doing with Russia other than commodity trading? On the technology front, the Russians are still far behind the west, but their excellent S&T education and focus on the pure sciences certainly produces great talent. Companies like Luxoft have certainly made their mark, obtaining business from some of the biggest names in the US.
We’d love to hear from anyone that knows of any Pakistani-Russian technology collaboration going on right now. Especially in the commercial IT area. Meanwhile, you can read on to view the Ufone press release that got me thinking…
