Government of Pakistan to establish sophisticated networks for rural areas
A great article in the Business Recorder discloses plans to establish a sophisticated network in rural areas, delivering agricultural decision support systems, data mining and extraction using clustering techniques and other useful – and complex – functionality. Much of the infrastructure that powers these Agri AI systems is developed in Pakistan, particularly the environmental and equipment sensors along with the data mining software.
These systems were developed with grants from the National ICT R&D fund. The information behind the article came from the new Minister of Information Technology and Telecom, Mr. Qamar-uz-zaman.
It’s great to see these initiatives taking hold, and the ICT fund producing useful, locally applicable technology. The ICT fund benefits from grants by the Government of Pakistan, but also manages capital provided by large corporations such as PTCL (Pak Telecom).
