Michael Dell's card in Arabic; Dell sees the region as a fast growing opportunity.

Dell has been operating in Pakistan for several years. A recent BR story quotes Dell Pakistan’s management as being extremely bullish on prospects for Dell’s SMB (Small-medium business) growth in the country.

One of the reasons for Dell’s success in Pakistan is the way their largest resellers, DWP, have been executing. DWP’s model is to provide complete solutions layered with end-to-end professional services. Of course, it helps that DWP also resell Cisco, EMC, Xerox, Samsung and Microsoft and have recently become an Oracle partner. Customers get to pick an entire “out of the box” office solution and DWP prof serv comes in and implements it all. Boom. You’re done. In some ways, this is a model that Dell should probably replicate at a larger scale globally. Their Achilles Heel has certainly been the lack of highly skilled professional services and solutions engineering when compared with organizations like HP services or IBM Global Services.

DWP Group has also established a Samsung display production facility on the outskirts of Lahore. Farooq Naseem, DWP’s CEO was quoted not too long ago in a Wired magazine article expounding on the virtues of their partnership with Samsung (at Sony’s expense!)

DWP should be in the $200M annual revenue range now; they are a private company so precise numbers are hard to come by. But based on some inside info, we know they were at targeting close to $120M in ‘06 and were projecting 20+% growth.
