The Redfly can be purchased at Celios online store at the 199.99 price. Also Amazon.com and a few other resellers. The 199.99 price is only good until 31 october 2008, so time is running out. It is Celio's hope that if people see a few of these floating around, it will arouse the interest of IT managers. (You can't have an employee running around with a geekier toy that the IT staff, so escallation will perpetuate). And yes, I ordered one about 2 days ago, I just had to try it for myself.

Brian, for those who might be interested in trying the Redfly out, could you share where you bought it from? The price you mention, $200, is much lower than the one advertised on the Celio website.

Hey there... I actually picked one of these up at the LOOW price of $200 (which to your point.. i would NOT have paid a penny over). And I can't tell you the "wow" factor I get luging this thing around.. and today was my first full day with it. My wife and I both have WM smartphones (she has a blackjack, I have a tilt). The day I got it and brought it home... she confiscated it for about 2 hours and is begging me to buy her one. The only reason we haven't is that we tried to test it with her blackjack and we couldn't get the drivers downloaded.. if they fix it before Oct 31st.... it's as good is bought.

While in the store shopping for a carrying case for my little treasure, i was stopped and asked by two reps what it was that I was carrying.. "Is it LINUX? Is that a WINDOWS machine?!?". I smartly pulled out my tilt and smiled. They were baffled.

I can't WAIT until my meeting next Wednesday! Here's my personal reason for not wanting a UMPC.

1) I already have 3 computers (2 at home, one at work)... so keeping my data synchronized between them all would just get worse if i added fourth.

2) I've already GOT a system for keeping everything organized. I only sync with my work laptop and one home pc... which one would i replace if i picked up a UMPC? my PC at home? not likely because that's where I sync my finance, health, calendar, contacts, onenote info, music, etc. and assuredly NOT my work laptop where i sync folders to keep the most up to date copies of my spreadsheets and other documents that i rely on heavily.

3) UMPC's have NO CONSTANT DATA CONNECTION. Admittedly, you can just tether it to your phone... if your provider allows it. OOOOH.. they DID just announce an EEE PC that will have a cellular radio in it... good for them.... but it doesn't fix problem number 2, and my phone also has built in GPS... which works VERY well on the 8" red fly screen.

4) sure.. video would be nice... but i've got other gadgets for that (remember these are MY personal reasons). and if i really NEED a full on computing platform.. there's gotomypc.com where i can run it all from anywhere in the world.. because i'm constantly connected.

5) do you know any EEE pc's with exchange or blackberry support? really? how about PUSH email.. can it take my phone calls? NO?!? you can connect the phone to it via software.. suuure (i use mymoblier all the time)... but can't beat that screen resolution!

I'll be writing a formal review next week, but I have to say.. i'm THOROUGHLY impressed. (the mouse and flash drive add ons..... NICE).

sorry so long.
