ClearCube, a US company that has previously outsourced to Pakistan, launches an exciting new Virtual Desktop offering

We’ve covered US-based ClearCube Technologies here previously. Today, they came out with a particularly interesting announcement that should get many resellers and integrators in Pakistan excited!

ClearCube will be launching a low-cost, pre-integrated Virtual Desktop bundle that makes centralized computing and desktop virtualization technology accessible to small and medium businesses. In most of Asia, would-be buyers probably consider advanced, high performance systems such as ClearCube blades, “too expensive”. However, with the new bundle, offered at a per seat price of only US $599, this perception will certainly change.

On top of the low purchase price, the other major benefits include very low energy consumption, tight security and high-powered management capabilities of the VDIWorks Virtual Desktop software. All of this combines to create a very compelling alternative to the conventional PC.

Virtualization is one of the hottest Information Technology topics these days and it looks like Pakistan is getting its fair share of Virtualization activity. Various Pakistani tech publications – including TechLahore – have reported in the recent past that:

1) John Kish, the CEO of Wyse Technology, a thinclient manufacturer focused on providing client devices for virtual desktop installations, recently visited Pakistan and announced Wyse’ intent to develop an offshore center in the country.

2) ClearCube Technology’s Sentral desktop virtualization product was developed by a Lahore based software firm, FiveRivers.

3) VDIworks, ClearCube’s virtualization spin-off is making use of development resources in Pakistan.

4) University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore recently hosted an Open software lecture series which included a full tutorial on the Xen virtualization platform

Now in addition to these items, the Business Recorder reports that IBM Pakistan is holding virtualization workshops and tutorials for customers and partners in Karachi focused on their xSeries and Blade Center line-up.

Today, ClearCube, the PC Blade and Virtualization pioneer that has been a FiveRivers Technologies partner over the last many years, announced that it was spinning off a software company called VDIworks. Interestingly, this company will use talent in Pakistan, presumably also under the auspices of the FiveRivers relationship. The story that references the new relationship is available here. It says:

“The two companies will remain linked through several intercompany agreements, he said, and both are owned by the same holding company. They will consult on various product road maps, and ClearCube becomes a VDIworks customer and its initial revenue stream, he said. Good news for the Pakistan software industry as this relationship demonstrates the high end capabilities available in our local market, and the ability of our companies to deliver on long-term engagements with a high degree of success.

Hoffman will take Chief Technology Officer Amir Husain and several other ClearCube executives with him. All told, VDIworks will have 11 employees in Austin and 26 software developers that ClearCube employed in Pakistan, Hoffman said. “

This is good news for the local software industry, as this relationship demonstrates the high-end capabilities available in Pakistan and the ability of domestic companies to deliver on long-term relationships with success.
